This is a list of Java Edition 1.4.6 development versions.
12w49a
12w49a is the first snapshot for Java Edition 1.4.6, released on December 7, 2012,[1] which added nether brick slabs, enchanted books and fireworks.
Additions
Blocks
- New kind of slab.
- Made by using 3 nether bricks blocks in a horizontal line.
- Came from a suggestion at Minecon 2012.[2]
Items
- Used for enchanting items.
- In this snapshot due to a bug, any item could be given any enchantment in Survival mode using an anvil.
- New kind of shootable projectible.
- Sound effects will come soon.
- Fireworks are customizable by crafting.
- Used for crafting firework rockets.

General
- When holding sneak, the player can place blocks and items (like redstone, repeaters, and levers) directly onto blocks such as crafting tables, furnaces, and dispensers.
- Can be harvested utilizing Silk Touch shears.
Items
- Can now have the Silk Touch enchantment by using the anvil.
Mobs
- The blast radius of fireballs a specific ghast shoots can be customized with an editor.
Removals
General
- Falling block behavior has changed - they are no longer capable of infinitely producing dropped items at high coordinate values.
Fixes

- MC-96 – using the number keys to move an item out of a furnace does not give XP.
- MC-256 – Mobs can still revert farmland to dirt even if mobGriefing gamerule is set on false.
- MC-498 – Setting an enderman on fire with flint and steel, or lava, will not make it teleport away.
- MC-721 – Animals on fire do not flee.
- MC-1140 – Boats always get placed in the same direction and not based on how they get placed.
- MC-1240 – Endermen cannot dodge flame arrow. When the arrow is shot the Enderman moves out of the way but is still set on fire.
- MC-1311 – When entering the Nether, the game auto-selects the first item on the toolbar.
- MC-1847 – Leaves have the incorrect tool tip.
- MC-2145 – "Drowning" in Creative mode.
- MC-2504 – Enchant command cannot enchant with ID 0 (Protection).
- MC-3332 – The XP level-up sound, which appears every 5 levels, does not play.
- MC-3490 – Minecarts and falling entities flicker.
- MC-3501 – Passive mob spawn eggs are not consumed upon use.
- MC-3565 – Endermen do not open their mouth when attacked by other mobs.
- MC-4069 – Pressing F3 + B displays hitboxes rendering invisibility potions useless.
- MC-4117 – The wither can sometimes destroy its own star due to the posthumous detonation of wither skulls.
12w50a
12w50a is the second snapshot for Java Edition 1.4.6, released on December 13, 2012,[3] which added new Christmas chest textures and the Thorns enchantment.

- Added 3 new textures:
xmaschest.png,largexmaschest.png, andskis.png.xmaschest.pngchanges the chest texture to resemble a red gift.largexmaschest.pngchanges the large chest texture to resemble a green gift.skis.pngis unused, dummy file. Dinnerbone said he added this file as a red herring.[4]- Chests use these textures on December 25.
Items
- Added tool highlight when switching items in the hotbar.
- Renamed items display the changed name.
- To disable it, player needs to open
options.txtand changeheldItemTooltipstofalse.
Mobs
- Enchanted books are now available through villager trading.
World generation
- Enchanted books can be found in dungeons with special enchantments normally not obtainable.
Gameplay
- Added Thorns enchantment for armor.
- When player wearing such armor gets hit by a mob, the mob receives damage.

General
- Item entities are rendered as 3D objects in the world when in fancy graphics mode.
- This includes items placed in item frames.
- Items now show their enchantments when dropped on the ground.
- Tweaked the effect the item gives and sounds.
Gameplay
- Removed the firework rocket from the Creative inventory.
- Protection is no longer as effective as all the other Protection-type enchantments combined.
- Unbreaking can be applied to anything with durability using enchanted books.
General
- Pressing CTRL+Q by default (Or the "Drop" button if changed in controls), the player drops a full stack instead of one item.
Notices
- Added a notice/warning for users still playing on PowerPCs or Java 5 (Java 1.5).
- Mojang plans to drop support for Java 5 by version 1.6.[5] This is due to the most recent versions of LWJGL no longer supporting Java 5, with PowerPC also no longer supported by Apple to be made compatible with Java 6 or newer.[6]

- MC-1969 – minecarts cant travel through nether portals.
- MC-3593 – Lightning does not flash.
- MC-4499 – Beacon tiers do not work at y=0.

12w50b
12w50b is the third and final snapshot for Java Edition 1.4.6, released on December 14, 2012,[7] to fix some of the bugs and crashes in 12w50a. This is the final snapshot released in 2012.

- Thorns damage is now customizable.
- Fire Protection now extinguishes players more quickly.
- Blast Protection now reduces explosion recoil.

- MC-133 – Mobs walking slow when the player hits them.
- MC-4024 – Chest glitch; server/client desyncronization.
- MC-4528 – Flaming arrows take a few seconds to visibly catch fire.

/xp -1Lcommand when between levels 0 and 1.

1.4.6 (pre-release)
Pre-release 1.4.6 is the first and only pre-release for Java Edition 1.4.6, released on December 17, 2012.[8]
This version was re-uploaded on the same day to fix an issue with mobs spinning.[9][10] The release version of 1.4.6 differs from this reupload by fixing a crash issue.[11]
This is the final pre-release released in 2012.

Failed to login: Error - MC-2904 – Zombie pigman knockback stunlocks Iron Golems, defeating their intended purpose.
- MC-3122 – The player cannot change texture packs.
- MC-3255 – Blaze fire ball crashes the game.
- MC-3280 – Some textures appear as dark terrain.png images.
- MC-3346 – Minecraft crashing every time the player gets on for a little while.
- MC-3632 – Game only loads the chunk the player currently standing on when they logged in. Then the game freezes and crashes.
- MC-3860 – Client crashes when underground near piston and redstone machine.
- MC-3899 – Skeletons will come close to attacker.
- MC-3934 – Particle overload when returning from AFK.
- MC-3988 – Slime audio bug.
- MC-4432 – Minecart off track and into walls.
- MC-4784 – Skeletons not retaliating to Iron Golems/Wolves.
- MC-4792 – Minecraft crashed, exception world.
- MC-4829 – Game client gets stuck on 'building terrain' screen.
