A version of Minecraft (Java Edition Classic Alpha) was released on May 16, 2009, at 16:07 UTC, referred to by Notch as "minecraft alpha".[1] This is the first version of Minecraft ever given to players, being released for private testing.[1][2] It is thus the first version in the Classic phase of development. The changes in this version are unknown.
