Rose

This article is about the removed flower. For the dye, see Red Dye. For the rose bush, see Rose Bush. For the wither rose, see Wither Rose.
It has been suggested that this page be merged with Poppy.

If this merge affects many pages or may potentially be controversial, do not merge the page until a consensus is reached.
Reason: They are literally the same block. The page was already merged in 2020 but got split again for no reason at all.

Roses were flowers available in old versions of Java Edition, Pocket Edition, and Legacy Console Edition, until they were substituted into poppies. Roses were red in Java and Legacy Console editions, and light blue in Pocket Edition.

In Java and Legacy Console editions, they could be crafted into two rose reds. They were also held and dropped by iron golems.

Obtaining

Breaking

A rose can be broken instantly with any item or by hand, dropping itself.

A rose also breaks if water or lava runs over its location, if a piston extends or pushes a block into its location, or if a block under the plant is moved or destroyed.

Natural generation

Roses generate naturally on dirt and grass blocks in multiple biomes as part of vegetation features.

Post-generation

When bone meal is applied to a grass block roses have a chance of generating on the targeted block and adjacent grass blocks in a 15×5×15 area.

Mob loot

Iron golems drop 0 to 2 roses upon death. This is unaffected by the Looting enchantment.

Endermen can pick up roses, like any other one-block-tall flower, and drop it if killed while holding it.

Usage

Main article: Flower § Usage

Like other flowers, roses can be used as decoration and planted.

Roses can also be placed in flower pots.
