Beta 1.16.220.52 is the third and final beta version for Bedrock Edition 1.16.220, released on March 18, 2021,[1] which adds new lush caves blocks and changes the world generation downwards to Y=-64 behind experimental toggle.
Experimental
These additions and changes are accessible by enabling the "Caves & Cliffs" experimental toggles.
Blocks
- Bush block which can be planted on dirt and grass blocks.
- Has either no blossoms or purple blossoms.
- Azalea can grow from moss blocks when bone meal is used.
- Can be used as fuel.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Has either no blossoms or purple blossoms.
- Yield azalea and sticks on decay.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- A natural light source with a light level of 14 when it has berries.
- Drop glow berries.
- Berries appear using bone meal.
- Berries can be harvested by interacting with the vine.
- Grow from glow berries when placed on the underside of a block.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Allows an entity to stay on it for 1.5 seconds (30 ticks), before the entity will fall through it.
- The tilt happens in 3 stages: unstable, partial and full.
- All the stages are solid except the full stage, which is when the player falls through.
- When nobody is standing on it, it is set to none stage.
- The tilt happens in 3 stages: unstable, partial and full.
- Comes in two sizes: small and big. Small can be applied bone meal to grow into big.
- Small Dripleaf can only be obtained with shears (otherwise breaks), and can only be planted on clay or underwater on clay and dirt blocks.
- Big Dripleaf can be obtained with any tool or by hand as well as breaking it using projectiles and can be planted on grass and dirt blocks.
- The tilt can also be triggered by hitting the plant with a projectile.
- The tilt can be prevented by powering it with redstone, but hitting it with a projectile still tilts.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Decorative blocks that can only be placed on the underside of a block.
- Obtained with shears, otherwise breaks.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- An opaque block with a grassy texture on all sides.
- Can be bonemealed to grow grass, tall grass, moss carpets and both types of azaleas on it and in its vicinity.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Uses the same texture as the moss block, but one pixel thick.
- Crafted with moss blocks.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Decorative block with roots on its texture.
- Similar to coarse dirt, neither mycelium nor grass spread to it.
- Using a hoe turns it into normal dirt and drops a hanging roots.
- Using bone meal on some will grow hanging roots underneath.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Can only be placed on the underside of a block.
- Sends particles downward and around the spore blossom when opened.
- Available under Experimental Gameplay.
- Now has sounds for being dyed.
Block of Copper, Cut Copper, and variants
- Waxing the block emits yellow particles.
- Axes can now be used to scrape off wax and oxidation (one stage at a time).
- Scraping off the wax from the block emits white particles.
- Lightning can now clean oxidation, reverting the oxidation process by one or several stages.
- Chances of cleaning and number of reverted stages are higher the closer to the struck block.
- The Copper Block variant names are now changed to match Java Edition.
- Renamed Copper Block to Block of Copper.
- Removed the word "Block" from oxidized variants of Block of Copper, including waxed variants.
- The IDs have also been updated.
- Copper Blocks ID are no longer stored into block states and now split between waxed and oxidization stages.
- Is now affected by the
randomTickSpeedgamerule.
- No longer rotated vertically when placing.
- Can now be waterlogged.
- Now emits particles when in contact with rain.
Items
- Can be eaten to restore 2 ().
- Grow on cave vines.
- Used to breed foxes.

Mobs
- Eat glow berries.
General
- Added the
electric_spark_particle,spore_blossom_ambient_particle,spore_blossom_shower_particle, andwax_particleparticles. - Available under Experimental Gameplay.
World generation
Lush Caves generation
- Currently added as a feature code file, does not generate in the overworld yet, and can only be generated using add-ons.
- Adaptive to the environment: every type of cave generation can be a lush cave.
- Moss covers the floors and ceilings, along with moss carpets and grass on the floors.
- Spore Blossoms grow from the ceiling and drip particles.
- Contains clay pools where dripleaf plants grow out of them.
- Contains azalea bushes (both variants).
- Cave vines with glow berries grow from the ceiling and light up the caves.

- Generation range and build limits have been expanded by 64 blocks down, to a total range of 384 blocks.
- To allow old world to generate with the new build limits, old chunks will generate Bedrock layers all the way to Y=-64 to fill up the void gap between Y=0 and Y=-64.
Fixes
General
- Sign text is no longer invisible on older worlds (MCPE-119628)
- Ink sacs and dyes now make sounds when used on signs (MCPE-117944)
- Selecting featured offer on Profile Screen will properly redirect user to complete list of featured offers
- Fixed non-guest split-screen players' lost data on Xbox (MCPE-55815)
- Made the sign-in buttons text fit the button in Portuguese-BR
- Use lighter color for text in Storage menu on Settings screen
- Fixed an issue where button textures were scaled wrong when applying resource packs
- Enabled navigating to the back button using only keyboard in some screens where it was not possible
- Fixed bug where switching between profile causes all other previewed profiles to be overridden by the initial one

- Piston and Sticky Piston are no longer appear black when Outline Selection is disabled (MCPE-53858)

- Glitchy lines are no longer visible on signs with text (MCPE-110321)
- Fixed barrier bug where non full blocks were flashing due to barrier not writing the depth (MCPE-116767)
- Non-persistent mobs no longer despawn immediately after loading into the Nether
- Drowned will now swing their arm when throwing tridents
- Fixed crash when entering a nether portal and throwing a bottle o' enchanting at the same time (MCPE-114793).
Character Creator
- Steve pants no longer color the bottom of appearance's feet when no footwear is equipped
- Users in multiplayer games should no longer see other players using pieces on their appearance that they do not own as Steve
- Changing skins while in splitscreen should now properly save for all local users and update properly for remote users
- Alex shirt no longer looks corrupted when equipped with different pants
- "Hooray!" emote will now display in the emotes section if already owned (MCPE-111165).
VR
- The death screen is now visible when behind full-screen effects (on fire, standing in a portal, etc) in VR
- Fixed translucent rendering of occluded UI elements, including when viewing menus near blocks
- Item aliases do not show up in autocomplete for duplicate items but commands can still succeed if the user runs the command with aliases.
