Cacti Canyon is the seventh mainland mission in Minecraft Dungeons. It is unlocked after the completion of Creeper Woods, and completing Cacti Canyon unlocks Desert Temple. It contains the captured luxury merchant.

Appearance and description

CACTI CANYON – The Arch-Illager seeks to summon armies of the Undead using a power that rests deep within an ancient desert temple. Finding the temple, however, is an adventure in its own right. The entrance lies hidden somewhere in this canyon - a sprawling maze of paths filled with malevolent mobs and lost secrets.

Guide to Minecraft Dungeons:
A Handbook for Heroes

Cacti Canyon is an expansive, dusty landscape made up of a jagged canyon and a desert. The canyon portion features uneven terrain and a mix of grass and coarse dirt, while the desert portion is composed of flatter terrain and a mix of sand and coarse dirt. Despite the steep terrain and dry conditions, cows and sheep can still be found roaming here. In the desert portion of this mission, husks wander around and fossils made of quartz are encountered as the hero approaches the temple in the distance. Halfway through the mission, a blue locked gateway must be unlocked using a diamond key golem guarded by an ambush found to the south-west. Near the diamond key golem, a hidden button can be activated to reveal the entrance door of Cacti Canyon Rune Room[note 1]. Upon unlocking the gateway to the north-east using the diamond key golem, a gold key golem can be found that must be brought back to the yellow locked gateway at the center of the area. Near the end of the mission, an ambush must be defeated to reach the distant temple. The mission ends upon opening the entrance of the temple.

Trivia

  • According to a line of unused text in the game files, the desert portion of Cacti Canyon is called the Blazelands.
  • Vultures can be heard in Cacti Canyon's opening cinematic music, The Maze.
  • During development, Cacti Canyon went through several iterations, as the developers knew they wanted it to contain large vistas and deep canyons that looked like they formed naturally.[1]
