A location or environment[1] is a traversable area in Minecraft Dungeons, and can refer to missions, secret missions, sub-missions, Camp, and sub dungeons.
List of location types
Missions
Missions are traversable levels that are selected and entered from the mission select map in Camp. Unlike secret missions, missions play a short cinematic upon entering that features a voiceover. Most of them are required to progress the story, and many are DLC-exclusive. Missions can be found on the mainland, in the island realms, or in other dimensions. Missions can contain required sub dungeons, optional sub dungeons, and scrolls that unlock secret missions.
Secret missions
Secret missions are traversable levels much like missions, however they must be unlocked by collecting scrolls in order to select them on the mission select map. Unlike missions, secret missions do not play any cinematics upon entering, and none of them are required to progress the story. The scrolls that are used to unlock secret missions are typically found in optional sub dungeons, a type of side location found within missions.
Sub-missions
A sub-mission is a short traversable level that is only found in within Ancient Hunt. Ancient Hunt will always contain three distinct sub-missions connected by two nether portals. Sub-missions are the only type of location in the game that can generate hunt doors, which lead to Gold Room or one of the various ancient dungeons.
Camp
Camp is the main hub location in Minecraft Dungeons, and essentially acts as the game's lobby. It contains the mission select table used to access missions and secret missions, as well as containing the Nether Room, an optional sub dungeon used to access Ancient Hunt and the piglin merchant. Additionally, it contains the entrance to The Tower, as well as several camp merchants that can upgrade and sell items.
Sub dungeons
A sub dungeon is a smaller location within a larger location, and is always accessed through a door. Certain sub dungeons are required, and always spawn 100% of the time. Other sub dungeons are optional, and have varying spawn chances. Tower floor types are an example of a required sub dungeon, while endersent dungeons, rune rooms, and ancient dungeons are an example of an optional sub dungeon. Optional sub dungeons often contain higher tier reward chests, and some contain scrolls that can be collected to unlock secret missions.
Accessibility
Missions and secret missions can be accessed from the mission select map in Camp. Sub-missions can be accessed by starting Ancient Hunt from Nether Room in Camp or through the other dimensions tab on the mission select map. Sub dungeons that are required can be accessed by entering a mission or secret mission that contains them; sub dungeons that are optional are accessed in the same way, however they often times have random spawn rates, so it may take multiple tries to generate a mission that has a desired optional sub dungeon.
