This page document the history of the textures of blocks, their additions, changes and removals. Additions and changes made to the models of blocks, as well as any new blocks which reuse prior textures, will not be documented here.

Pocket Edition Alpha

The textures above are used by the game for drawing blocks, even though some of these blocks cannot be normally obtained.

Due to being based on Java Edition Beta 1.3's terrain.png, the above textures are present, but are not yet used by any blocks in the game.
The lava and water placeholder textures are used as actual fluid textures in many cases (although on some devices water looked like java water at the time).
Roses have an exclusive texture.
v0.1.3 Added two new textures for the info update blocks.
The game now uses the textures for cactus.
v0.2.0
The textures have been updated to Java Edition 1.0.0 and has inherited the additions and changes made to terrain.png. The above ported texture changes apply to blocks existent in the game.
The above ported texture changes do not apply to any existing blocks.
The newly added textures above do not yet belong to any blocks.
The ice texture has been made completely opaque.
The game now uses the textures for oak door, oak fence, and oak fence gate.
v0.2.1 The game now uses the textures of the bookshelf.
v0.2.1 alpha2 The iron door textures have changed.
info_update now has a completely transparent pixel in the top left.
v0.3.0 The game now uses the textures for crafting tables.

v0.5.0 Added textures for glowing obsidian and the nether reactor core.
The game now uses the textures for glowstones, melons, cobwebs, and melon stems.
The grass block side texture has changed.
v0.6.0 Textures for the stonecutter, sandstone, and quartz block variants have been added.
The game now uses the textures for netherrack and nether bricks.
v0.7.0 The game now uses the textures for cakes.
Changed the lava texture.
v0.8.0build 2 Added textures for spruce planks, birch planks, beetroot seeds, carrots, potatoes, hay bales and the block of coal.
The game now uses the textures for pumpkins, jack o'lanterns, iron bars, rails, powered rails and sponges.
Added textures for cocoa, tripwire and command blocks, despite these not yet being implemented.
The iron door has been repaired and the grass block side texture reverted.
The cactus top texture has unintentionally changed.
terrain.png has been removed, and block textures have been relocated to terrain-atlas.tga.
v0.8.0build 7 Changed the Ice texture.
v0.9.0build 1 Added the textures for acacia wood, dark oak wood, granite, polished granite, diorite, polished diorite, andesite, polished andesite, block of emerald, hardened clay, the 16 stained hardened clay, podzol, red sand, packed ice, emerald ore, acacia, jungle, and dark oak saplings, tall grass, peony, lilac, rose bushes, sunflowers, blue orchid, allium, azure bluet, and the 4 tulips.
the game now uses the textures for end stone, mycelium, mushroom blocks, mushroom stem, cocoa, end portal frames, and lily pads.
v0.11.0build 1 Added the textures for grass paths and redstone blocks.
v0.12.1build 1 The game now uses the textures for enchanting tables, brewing stands, soul sand and nether wart.
Added the texture of anvil, chipped anvil, damaged anvil, flower pots and nether quartz ore.

Detector rails now have a unique texture for when activated.
Powered rails no longer always on.
Added the textures for redstone lamps, daylight sensors, activator rail, the 5 wooden doors, and iron trapdoor.
v0.14.0build 1 Added the textures for redstone comparator, dropper, hopper, item frame, red sandstone, chiseled red sandstone, and slime blocks.
The game now uses the textures for dispenser, but with a different texture.
The games now uses the textures for redstone repeaters and cauldron.
v0.14.2 Changed the nether bricks texture to be brighter.
v0.15.0build 1 the game now uses the textures for pistons and sticky piston.
Added the texture for observers.
v0.15.0build 2 Peony and rose bushes now have textures from the Legacy Console Edition.
v0.16.0build 1 Textures for the sea lantern, Prismarine, wet sponge, allow, deny, and border blocks have been added.

1.0.0alpha 0.17.0.1 textures for end stone bricks, purpur blocks, purpur pillars, chorus flowers, chorus plants, end rods, dragon eggs, and end gateways; has been added.

1.1.0alpha 1.1.0.0 Added textures for sixteen colors each of concrete, concrete powder, and glazed terracotta, as well as frosted ice.
