A vindicator raid captain is a powerful vindicator variant and raid captain found within the various missions of Minecraft Dungeons. When defeated, they make the active mission gain a negative modifier or higher threat level, but improves loot throughout the mission. They visually resemble a variant 3 vindicator.
Spawning
Raid captains can only spawn if a mission has been completed before. They spawn with a group of illagers or illager allies around them, such as vindicators, geomancers, pillagers, mountaineers, wind callers, enchanters, royal guards, icelogers, or witches. They can also spawn alone. Vindicator raid captain cannot spawn during ancient hunts.
They can be found within the following missions:
Creeper Woods
Creepy Crypt
Soggy Swamp
Soggy Cave
Pumpkin Pastures
Arch Haven
Cacti Canyon
Redstone Mines
Fiery Forge
Desert Temple
Lower Temple
Highblock Halls

Behavior
Vindicator raid captains charge and attack heroes on sight. Unlike normal vindicators, though, they cannot move while attacking. They also do not retreat, nor get aggressive, nor taunt. Their movement speed is equal to a hero's.
Strong attack
Vindicators attack the hero on sight. They attack about as fast as zombies, but have much higher damage and knockback.
Drops
When defeated, raid captains drop one of two banners; either a threat banner or a mystery banner. When activated, these banners add modifiers (e.g. enemies have boost) to the current mission that increase the difficulty but add a raid reward chest to the end of the mission. Furthermore, the chance for the item in the reward chest to be unique exponentially increases for every raid captain defeated after the first.
If all six raid captains have been defeated inside of a Daily Trial on Apocalypse +25, the highest power level items in the game can be collected from the raid reward chest.
