The sky is a visual feature of Minecraft worlds. It changes color depending on the time of day and other factors, and contains visual features such as the sun, moon, and stars.
While visually and functionally related, the sky is distinct from fog, which can be considered its horizontal equivalent in cases. Like with fog, the sky's color can be changed depending on the current biome.
The sky is an exclusive element of the minecraft:overworld dimension effect. A pale garden is the only biome that has a gray sky.
Colors
This section is missing information about: What exactly happens to the sky:
- During sunset and sunrise.
- During thunder.
- When lightning strikes.
- When the wither is on screen.
- The change of color affected by the player's vertical position especially in Bedrock Edition. For example, when a player is in the bottom void, the sky appears darker, and the color changes to purple if the player is at a high vertical coordinate such as 600-2000.
- In a custom superflat world without any layers of blocks, the sky appears constantly black in Bedrock Edition(Verify).

History
This section is missing information about: The sky coloring behavior during sunrise and sunset in Pocket Edition 1.1.x was different from other versions, something that can be noticed by rotating the camera around. Additionally these versions were affected by an issue with the night vision effect, looking to the side opposite to the moon's side during night would cause the fog to turn yellow..
