Sean Astin is an American actor, known for portraying Mikey Walsh in The Goonies and Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. On top of being a prolific screen actor, he has also had many roles as a voice actor, voicing Raphael in the 2012 iteration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the title character of Special Agent Oso.

In the Minecraft franchise

In 2016, Astin provided the voice of the character Reginald in Minecraft: Story Mode, serving as a one-off supporting character.[1] He would return in the 2020s, providing narration for the audiobooks of two novels, Minecraft: The Mountain and Minecraft: The Village.[2][3][4]

Trivia

  • One of the characters he portrayed, Bob Newby from the television series Stranger Things, would receive an official skin in the Stranger Things Skin Pack.
    • Another role of his, Raphael, would also later gain a skin in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles world, albeit not the version that he voiced. Instead, the iteration featured is based off the 1987 series, where he was portrayed by voice actor Rob Paulsen.
  • Astin went to high school with Max Brooks and Jack Black, which led to him being assigned the audiobooks for the former's books; Jack Black had narrated the audiobook for Minecraft: The Island.[5][6]
