The nitwit is a villager who appears as a supporting character in A Minecraft Movie. He serves a role in the film's subplot, in which he escapes the Overworld, wanders into Idaho, and meets Vice Principal Marlene. He is performed by Bret McKenzie with the voices of Daniel Rosenfeld (archived audio) and Matt Berry.

Appearance

The nitwit resembles other villagers, except he wears a green coat as opposed to brown, blue, or orange. Unlike the current design of his video game counterpart, he lacks any brown underrobe, making him more closely resemble the original depiction of the profession, prior to Village & Pillage; merely a recolor of a plains villager.

Personality

In spite of the name nitwit, he lacks any apparent incompetence or low intelligence. He appears semi-incurious, not quite questioning his surroundings, but justifiably unaware of things foreign to him. Upon meeting Marlene, the two have immediate chemistry, and is described by her as a very kind figure.

Powers and abilities

The nitwit being hit by Marlene's car

The nitwit is shown to be incredibly durable, surviving being run over by a car. Upon being hit, he is sent sliding backward, with no visible bruises, cuts, or even irritation, instead being merely inconvenienced by the encounter. The nitwit is also shown to have linguistic abilities, therefore challenging his name as he was able to master English in a single day, and bring Minecraft effects to the real world, such as the breeding.

Biography

Upon witnessing the gang of misfits enter the Overworld through the Earth Portal, the nitwit secretly ventured into it, emerging in the mine in Idaho, on Earth, where he encountered Dennis on his way back to the Overworld.

After nightfall, the nitwit attempts to cross a highway but is unsuccessful.[1] He would end up being hit by Marlene's Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, he remained unharmed and engages in conversation with Marlene, who takes note of his unusually large head. As an apology, and given her recent divorce, she invites the nitwit to dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Once at the restaurant, Marlene and the Nitwit get to know each other and begin dating. The Nitwit is described as intelligent and possessing a better personality than Marlene's ex-husband, Clemente Gunchie. He and Marlene get along very well, sharing a close romantic bond.

The next day, at Marlene's office, the Nitwit is challenged by Clemente. In response, he starts speaking English, having quickly learned the language whilst also having taught Marlene to speak the villagers' language. He uses the English language to then propose to Marlene, which she excitedly accepts.
