Dennis is a pale wolf living in the Overworld that was tamed by Steve, becoming entrusted with the Earth Cube and hiding away in Chuglass.

Appearance

Dennis has a light grey fluffy coat of fur tinted brown across his upper half his body. Once tamed, he wears a red collar with a name tag reading his name that materialized around his neck.

Personality

While Dennis is hostile and aggressive towards Steve during their initial interaction, with Steve claiming he wanted to eat him, he eventually warms up to Steve after he provides him a bone to tame him. However, based on the mechanics of the game, it is possible that his red eyes were caused not by Steve, but by nearby sheep. After being tamed, Dennis is a sweet, loving, and playful creature, who is incredibly intelligent and loyal to his owners.

Biography

During Steve's first few days/weeks in the Overworld, he found himself cowering in fear within his pink house on an especially bad night when a horde of undead mobs attempted to break in. The sun soon rose and killed the undead horde in the process. As Steve left his house to survey, he realized that the horde also consisted of an aggressive wolf unaffected by the sun's rays. Instead of running or hiding from the predator, he picked up a bone that had dropped from one of the late horde's skeletons and presented it to the wolf, who happily accepts it. This tamed the wolf and caused a collar to form around its neck with a tag revealing the wolf's name to be Dennis. From here Steve and Dennis become best friends, as the two build and play fetch together.

When Steve discovered a ruined obsidian gateway for the first time, he was accompanied by Dennis. As he lit the portal with a flint and steel, it activated and Dennis decided to jump through it on a whim. On the other side of the portal were piglins, ordered to surround and capture Steve and Dennis by their queen, Malgosha, who also confiscates the Orb of Dominance from Steve. While imprisoned, Steve ordered Dennis to steal their piglin guard's keys, and they both escape from their cell. However, Steve isn't able to make it to the portal and orders Dennis to take the Orb of Dominance back to Earth and hide it underneath his bed at his old house. Dennis escapes the Nether, but loses his collar during his hectic run to the Earth Portal. Dennis eventually succeeds in Steve's last request to him, but in doing so becomes stranded on Earth, continuing to live out an unknown amount of time in this foreign landscape.

Later as the gang enters the Overworld, Dennis is seen chasing after them through it, briefly crossing paths with the Nitwit as he enters Earth. Meanwhile in the Nether, Malgosha releases Steve from his prison to retrieve the Orb of Dominance for her as she was able to sense its return. Steve promises he will find it for her, but only after Malgosha insinuates that she also knows of the whereabouts of Dennis. As Steve eventually meets up with the rest of the cast, he mentions multiple times that he needs the Orb of Dominance to save Dennis' life, but promises he doesn't plan to return the Orb to Malgosha.

Dennis eventually crosses paths with Natalie and Dawn, while he was seemingly hunting. While Natalie is apprehensive at first, Dawn recognizes the merit in the wolf and shows him kindness as she offers him a bone, re-taming him in the process. This causes Dennis to generate a new collar around his neck. Seeing Dennis' name tag, Dawn realizes that it is Steve's lost wolf and later reunites the pair at the mushroom tower.

This leads to Dawn's role in the final fight, where she tames a whole pack of wolves to attack the invading piglin army. Leading the wolf army was Dennis, who survives the ordeal where many other wolves did not.

While preparing to return home, Dawn asked Steve if he is okay with allowing her to take custody of Dennis. After a heartfelt song in which Steve proclaims his love for Dennis and telling him to go change more lives, it is seen that Dennis became a notable and popular attraction at Dawn's roadside zoo.
