The chicken jockey is a baby zombie riding a chicken who competes in an illager fighting ring at the woodland mansion.
Appearance
The zombie closely resembles its adult counterparts, with green skin, a square head, a "unisex turquoise blouse", and jeans. Due to being younger, it is noticeably smoother, with more visible white sclera and short hair. The chicken is identical to all other chickens.
Personality
Initially, the baby zombie tries to present itself as cutesy and innocent, much like a living child. However, it turns out to be a ruse, as they are very aggressive in combat. Even when separated, the two appear to share a genuine bond, with the chicken defending the zombie. As aggressive and cunning as the baby zombie is, it still exhibits childish behavior such as crying upon defeat, although this is initially feigned in order to trick Garrett into letting his guard down. When Garrett first defeats the jockey, the baby zombie cries and triggers his empathy, only to lure him in for a second round with a surprise attack. After Steve's interference, the baby cries again—this time genuinely—after being ejected from the ring and losing.
Powers and abilities
The combined strength of the two mobs is shown to be quite strong, sending Garrett Garrison flying with a single hit. By extension, both are shown to be quite fast, if not uncatchable. By itself the jockey is very ruthless, with the bite strength to maul a person's face and overpower a grown man.
Biography
During a mission into woodland mansion, Garrett and Steve ended up being put inside of a fighting ring. Initially, Garrett is led to believe he is fighting a mere chicken, only for a crate to open up above the arena, releasing the jockey. This proved to be Garrett's match. The fight begins before Garrett can process anything, with the jockey sending him across the ring. As it prepares to ram into him a second time, the jockey leaps into the air and tries mauling his face. He manages to catch it in time and throws it aside, but is caught off guard when the jockey's chicken bites him in the leg.
While Garrett was distracted by the bite, the jockey uses the throw to its advantage, springing off the ropes to kick Garrett. This gives Garrett the idea to weaponize the ropes, protecting him from another one of the jockey's attacks. However, it begins crying, attempting to bait Garrett into letting his guard down, Steve failing to warn him of its true nature. As it bites Garrett's hand, he falls down in the center of the ring, while the jockey somehow appears at the edge, preparing to leap down on him. Luckily for Garrett, Steve manages to escape confinement, and performs a sneak attack on the baby, sending it flying outside the room. This ends the battle, as the jockey pounds its fists against the floor.

Trivia
- In A Minecraft Movie Live Event's Protecting the Payloads mini-game, the chicken jockey is a full-fledged mob instead of a chicken being ridden by a zombie like in the original game.
- In a LEGO set promoting the film, the character and its mount are noticeably larger than prior LEGO incarnations.[1]
Publicity
Prior to and following the film's release, the chicken jockey's scene became a viral meme, which went on to become an infamous real world phenomenon in which moviegoers threw concessions in celebration and sometimes bringing an actual chicken to the theater. This prompted movie theaters to issue warnings regarding this type of behavior during the scene, and threatening to call law enforcement in some cases.[2][3][4][5]
