Questions about programs that are installed in an Ubuntu system. Use this tag for questions regarding the maintenance, upgrade or removal of such programs, or for problems with finding or using them.

When Ubuntu is installed, it comes with a default set of installed programs. You can also install more programs using , , (make install), Ubuntu Software Center, Synaptic, etc.

You can use this tag for questions or problems about the following aspects of installed programs:

  • Understanding the purpose or benefit of the program
  • Locating the installation directory
  • Executing or using the program
  • Updating or upgrading
  • Removing or uninstalling
  • Cleaning traces left by the program during use or after removal
  • Tuning or improving its performance
  • Associating it with file types or mime types
