Tutorial:The World Starts With One
The World Starts with One is a new survival gamemode, that takes advantage of the strange way that Single Biome world generation works. It was originally created by Moai of Knowledge, a Minecraft YouTuber.
You start with a single sapling in a Single Biome "The Void" world. The goal is to survive and thrive, getting as many different items as you can. Getting to the Nether is possible, and greatly expands the available resources.
Generating the World
Create a new world, set the world to Hardcore and set the generation to Single Biome and set the biome to The Void. After creating the world, open the world to LAN with "Allow Cheats" enabled, issues the command /give @s minecraft:oak_sapling
Global Progress
Since the biome is void, most things cannot spawn in the world. Caves are mostly barren since normal ore generation is disrupted by the void biome, no trees or grass spawn on the surface and normal hostile mob spawning is prevented.
Your first day
The first day begins by planting the single sapling you are given at the start of the game, from there it is mostly a game of waiting. You need to wait for the sapling to grow while conserving food. Usually players gather some dirt and begin terraforming the landscape. If the tree grows it is best to immediately harvest it, breaking the leaves in order to get more saplings to plant additional trees. With the wood of your first tree a pickaxe can be made, and it is best to use the remaining wood to create charcoal to make a torch. Torches will allow the saplings to grow even during the night.
A stable food supply
Apples aren't the best food supply, however you can access another food source with the help of a composter. As the player gathers more saplings, some of them can be composted in order to get bonemeal. This can be used on the grass on the surface in order to get grass, which will get you wheat seeds, which can be grown into wheat. This gives you access to a stable supply of bread.
Acquire Hardware
With a stable food supply and plenty of torches you can make your way to the caves. Normal ores don't spawn but the new 1.18 ore veins do, which provides access to both copper and iron. While rare, ore veins spawn with many ore blocks providing the player with lots of iron ingots which become important to accessing the Nether.
We Need to Go Deeper
Iron buckets allows you to move lava and water, allowing the creation of a Nether Portal via casting. Flint can be acquired from the ocean floors, and will let the player craft a flint and steel. The Nether generates normally, meaning accessing it is a major milestone and unlocks many more items.
