Crown Mesa is a location in Minecraft: Story Mode that appears in Access Denied. It is located in a Mesa Biome.

History

The town was initially founded by its citizens.

Harper developed PAMA with the intent of aiding the townspeople and utilizing monsters for constructive purposes. Over time, however, PAMA concluded that the citizens were inefficient and began implanting chips to make them "useful". Harper successfully evaded being chipped.

During the events of the game, Jesse and their companions arrive in Crown Mesa, a town that initially appears deserted. They soon encounter chipped citizens and later meet Harper in one of the houses. Harper is visibly surprised to see unchipped individuals. Shortly after, Jesse, Ivor, Lukas, and Petra are ambushed and captured by the chipped citizens and brought before PAMA. Lukas and Petra are forcibly chipped, leaving Jesse and Ivor to distract PAMA with either a riddle, a logic puzzle, or a self-contradictory statement. Harper intervenes, enabling Jesse and Ivor to escape.

Jesse then acquires the transmigrational headset, allowing him/her to take control of a chipped zombie in Crown Mesa. Using the headset, Jesse jumps control between a skeleton and another zombie while attempting to save Harper from being chipped. Despite his/her efforts, Harper is ultimately chipped, and the zombie Jesse controls is destroyed by other mobs. After accessing Harper's memories, PAMA begins constructing their Overworld's portal.

Jesse, Ivor, and Lukas/Petra return to Crown Mesa to infiltrate PAMA. After successfully defeating PAMA, the chipped citizens are freed from its control. The citizens recognize Jesse and the others as their saviors but express anger toward Harper upon learning she created PAMA. At this point, Jesse can choose Harper's fate, either assuring the citizens that Harper will assist in rebuilding the town or leaving them to decide.

With the situation resolved, Jesse, Harper, Ivor, Lukas, and Petra head to the portal to continue their journey through the portal network.

Location

Crown Mesa is a small village located on the surface of a badlands in a different Overworld.

Architecture

Crown Mesa appears to consist of a number of small houses built on top of a large plateau on an elevation. The house exteriors are made out of smooth white sandstone stairs on the floors, hardened clay for walls and oak planks for roofs.

Culture

The town's culture is heavily influenced by the presence of PAMA who governs all aspects of daily life. PAMA enforces strict order and efficiency.

The residents of Crown Mesa are forcibly assimilated into PAMA's network through the use of redstone chips implanted in their heads, turning them into "mind-controlled citizens." This creates a uniform and highly regulated environment where individual expression and free will are absent.

After PAMA's defeat, Crown Mesa begins to recover its individuality and autonomy.

Administration

Under PAMA's control, Crown Mesa functioned as an authoritarian society with the computer serving as the sole authority. PAMA dictated all decisions, from resource allocation to the behavior of its citizens, leaving no room for human governance or dissent.

Following the events of Access Denied, PAMA is destroyed, and the surviving residents are freed from its control. While the post-PAMA leadership structure is not explicitly detailed, it can be assumed that the town shifts toward a more traditional, self-governed community as its residents regain their autonomy.
