The portal network, referred to as a portal hallway by the protagonists, is a structure located in a separate dimension created by the Old Builders that serves as a hub for portals into different worlds. The atlas guides the travelers in the network.
History
Before the events of the game, the portal network was a hub where competitors from various Overworlds traveled to participate in the Builder Games until some of the Old Builders corrupted the system.
Jesse and their friends first encounter the portal network after passing through a portal in Order Up!. Stranded in the network, they begin traveling between various worlds in search of a way back to their Overworld.
At the non-canon epilogue of A Portal to Mystery,[1] Captain Sparklez appeared in the network, narrating the future of Jesse and the others' adventures.
During their journey, they acquire the redstone heart and meet Harper, who uses the Heart to reveal a hidden staircase that will lead them in getting the atlas, a key artifact for navigating the portal network. This path takes them to the Overworld of the Builder Games.
After defeating Hadrian and Mevia, the competitors are freed and allowed to return to their homes. Jesse can optionally invite Emily to join their group. Otto gives Jesse the atlas, which guides them back to the Order of the Stone's Overworld portal, marking the conclusion of their journey through the portal network.
At the end of A Journey's End?, Ivor took the atlas and the enchanted flint and steel, heading into the portal network. Jesse and the others pursued him in an attempt to retrieve the items or join him, or leave him.
In Below the Bedrock, it is revealed that Ivor traveled through a portal leading to a world entirely white in appearance, a domain ruled by a ninja master.
Location
It is located in a dimension separate from all the Overworlds, acting as a bridge between those. It can be accessed by a portal placed in its dedicated Overworld.
Architecture
Portals in the portal network have different colors. Each portal has a "frame" made out of a material that represents the world this portal leads to. One wall contains a secret quartz staircase that leads to Old Builders if the redstone heart is placed inside of it.
