Chickens are passive mobs that are mostly kept for their meat and eggs, though they are also kept as pets. They are small, non-hostile animals that appear in various environments.
Behavior
Chickens, like their base counterparts, wander aimlessly and frequently peck at the ground. They lay eggs over time. Unlike their base game counterparts, chickens in Minecraft: Story Mode are able to fly short distances, similar to real-life chickens.
History
The Order of the Stone
Inside Jesse's treehouse, Olivia asked Jesse which he/she would fight between a hundred chicken-sized zombies or ten zombie-sized chickens.
On the way to EnderCon, Jesse, Reuben, and Petra were blocked by monsters. After falling off the bridge, the two encountered chickens while falling with some of them thrown into Reuben after a creeper exploded.
On the night of EnderCon, Jesse and the others needed to head into the hall, however, they were blocked by an usher who is scared of chickens. Noticing the usher's fear, the group planned to break a nearby chicken machine to get inside. Jesse succeeded in breaking the machine, which allowed them to pass through the gate.
On their search for the temple of the Order of the Stone, after the group built a shelter, Olivia asked Lukas the same question about chickens and zombies which Axel interrupted. If Lukas was convinced to stay, he answered the question with ten zombie-sized chickens, reasoning that because he is starving.
Assembly Required (Boom Town)
On the chase for the Order's amulet, a griefer will throw an egg at him/her, spawning a baby chicken.
Later, when Jesse chose to throw eggs at some griefers, if he/she chooses not to throw the last egg, it will spawn a baby chicken.
In the fight against Magnus, a baby chicken spawned after Jesse threw an egg at Magnus.
A Block and a Hard Place
After the wither storm was resurrected by the command block, several mobs flee from the wither including a chicken jockey.
Inside the wither storm, Jesse and Reuben found withered citizens alongside chickens.
Order Up!
Jesse, and the others were looking for a treasure called Eversource when they stumbled upon a chicken. The chicken was revealed to be the treasure they were looking for.
A Portal to Mystery
One of the paintings in the Spooky Mansion depicts a chicken jockey. The painting can be found in the dining room before it was replaced a painting of the White Pumpkin.
Access Denied
After arriving in a seemingly ghost town, Jesse found some chickens that are redstone chipped. The chickens move in unison.
A Journey's End?
After defeating Hadrian and Mevia, Jesse got an idea on what to do with the two, the idea was based on the answer towards Olivia's question at the treehouse.
In a post-credits scene, it was revealed that zombie-sized chickens are real and Hadrian and Mevia are in world filled of it.
Hero in Residence
After being tasked by Stampy Cat and Stacy Plays, Jesse can collect eggs from chickens.
Below the Bedrock
In Fred's Keep, one of the questions in the trivia contest asked about the name of the pet of Fred. Jesse can learn the name prior to the contest.
