A pillar is a tall object that spawns hordes of mobs in Minecraft Dungeons.
Appearance
The pillar's name is self-explanatory. A rune pillar possesses runic symbols running down its sides. The bottom of the pillar has a few open spaces with gold inside them. Pillars are surrounded by a box-shape floor tile whose perimeter glows purple and blue while the pillar is active. The ones in the Fiery Forge, Arch Haven, Creepy Crypt and the Highblock Halls look similar, but have a more simplistic design and emit red light. There is also a special glowing jungle pillar that exclusively appears in the treetop tangle.

Behavior
Jungle Pillars
Jungle pillars are similar to rune pillars but have a special green glow. They are able to cause poison blasts around them that also leave behind a small poison cloud in the middle, are able to spawn the following mobs:
Redstone/Stone Pillars
Stone and redstone pillars only activate if the hero interacts with them. The mobs that can spawn from a pillar include:
Stone Pillar Only
Stone and redstone pillars don’t do anything but spawn mobs, unlike rune pillars. These pillars often will open doors or spawn chests after their events are completed.
Rune Pillars
Unlike redstone and stone pillars, when a hero stands on the pillar's spawning tile, it activates and begins glowing. The pillar then begins continuously spawning mobs in the same fashion as a mob spawner, but the pillar spawns a greater variety of mobs and is not capable of taking damage. The mobs that a pillar can spawn depend on the pillar's type and the level's enemy list:
Blastling (Void)
Endermite (Void)
Frozen Zombie (Gale)
Iceologer (Gale)
Mountaineer (Gale)
Pillager (Gale)
Royal Guard (Gale)
Skeleton (Gale)
Snareling (Void)
Watchling (Void)
Wind Caller (Gale)
Zombie (Gale)
As mobs spawned by the rune pillar are killed, the glow from its tile will begin to diminish. After 15 seconds, both the pillar and its tile will stop glowing and it will cease spawning mobs. They will also occasionally attack to repel nearby heroes. The effects of these attacks span the entirety of the pillars' spawning zones.
- Gale rune pillars release a wind blast around them that knocks nearby heroes and enemies away from them. This attack does not deal damage.
- Void rune pillars release a molten void blast that inflicts the Voided effect on heroes, as well as causing a small void cloud that deals continuous damage to heroes in it, but does not inflict the Voided effect.
Rune pillars are often used to open doors and gates, where a nearby one is closed after the pillar activates. Once the pillar is deactivated, the door/gate opens again and the hero is free to pass.
Tempest Golem Boss Battle
Two gale rune pillars appear on each side of the tempest golem's arena, which play an integral part of the battle. The pillars are linked to the tempest golem's arms, and while at least one pillar is active the golem will be completely invulnerable to damage. If both are deactivated, the tempest golem will become stunned and vulnerable to damage. The pillars reactivate after the tempest golem's stun period is over. They can also deactivate squall golems but will restore once the pillars are reactivated to support the tempest golem. Compared to typical gale rune pillars, the pillars connected to the golem take half as much time to be deactivated.
