A bee is a flying arthropod-like creature, and are among some of the first mobs featured within A Minecraft Movie, appearing sparingly throughout the film in a particularly minor role.

Appearance

Being rectangular insectoid creatures, bees possess a thick coat of black and yellow hair-like filamentation. With compound eyes, antennas, and cute "smiling" mandibles, these insects greatly resemble the bees of Earth excluding their notably larger size, coming in approximately a meter in length. Also similarly to their Earth counterparts, their wings are relatively small compared to the rest of their body mass, however this does not greatly hinder their ability to fly.

Behavior

Bees are often shown clumsily flying around the Overworld, however not much is known about what this iteration of the creature is capable of. While not seen in the film, it can be assumed that bees pollinate flowers, live in hive block structures, and have the ability to defend themselves if provoked.

Biography

As Steve enters the Overworld for the first time via the Earth Portal, one of the first creatures he is met by is a docile bee who flies by him while attending to its business, which Steve meets with a visually shocked expression. From here bees are used primarily as set dressing for Overworld shots, often being featured flying around in the background throughout the rest of the film.

Quotes

BEE - Just like their counterparts on Earth, BEES pollinate flowers and don’t really sting unless provoked. The only difference is that here, they’re perfectly square
