A creeper is a plant-like creature featured as secondary antagonists who prowl and stalk the Overworld at night. When provoked, they detonate after a short delay.
Appearance
Coming in at approximately 1.7 meters, these tall rectangular plant-like quadrupeds possess a lush green filament-like covering that appears to consist of mosses, clovers, and grasses. However creepers also possess a layer of hide-like skin alongside this coat of foliage, as seen on their padded elephant-like feet. While the orifices located on their heads looking as if it could be a face with eyes and a mouth, their heads are actually completely hollow, lacking any recognizable internal features or organs. Despite the lack of eyes, however, creepers appear to be able to see and sense their environment, but it is unknown how they do so. Creepers also possess an internal skeleton, meaning they are at least analogous to vertebrate animals.
Behavior
Despite their nefarious reputation, creepers are often portrayed as half-witted and anxious creatures. They do not seemingly provoke others because they want to, but rather because they instinctively have to. Often times creepers will simply observe or stalk others, but after their fuse is lit they will relentlessly track down their quarry as the clock ticks for their inevitable combustion. While they are able to react to pain in their normal state, after their fuse is lit they no longer will react to any damage take to their body, seemingly causing the creeper to become completely mindless.
Powers and abilities
Creepers possess the unique ability to spontaneous combust, and achieve this by setting off some sort of chemical reaction within their bodies akin to lighting a TNT fuse, causing the creeper to explode violently into sparks. Any creatures caught in this explosion run the risk of death, though many are able to barely survive the blast. Though the capability to explode is a famous aspect of creeper biology, it is not actually known why they do this. It is however theorized that this action is a natural part of a creeper's life cycle, as the explosion could be the creeper spreading its spores to create new creepers.
Biography
During Henry, Natalie, Garrett, and Dawn's first night in the Overworld, a creeper can be seen sneaking up on Garrett after he narrowly escaped the spider jockeys. Garrett accidentally hits the creeper incorrectly assuming it to be one of the skeletons sneaking up on him, and after realizing that he hit what he assumed is a innocent bystander he immediately apologizes to the whimpering creeper. Despite this though, the creeper's fuse instinctively lights itself, and the creeper explodes mere feet in front of Garrett, sending him flying backwards. Soon afterwards the same night, a second creeper is seen with a horde of zombies and skeletons attacking Henry's first base. A skeleton shoots the creeper with a flame arrow causing it to detonate faster, causing it to blow up a considerable chunk of Henry's base whilst also killing a majority of the zombies in the process.
Later in the film, after Henry, Garrett, and Steve visit the Redstone Mines, they are ambushed by piglins and the Great Hog and are forced to flee on an old minecart track. This track leads them directly to Steve's old creeper farm, where he presumably bred generations of creepers as livestock for gunpowder. The three are able to just narrowly escape the creeper farm before the creepers all simultaneously detonate, killing the pursuing piglins and Great Hog in the process.

Trivia
- The film's depiction of creepers being covered in foliage aligns with the idea that creepers are plants. Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft, has previously said he considered creepers as being plants; as their texture was made using the original design of oak leaves and stacking them onto a white background.[1][2]
- Steve's creeper farm is similar to player-made creeper farms in the actual game, albeit in concept rather than design.
