Flames of the Nether is the fourth paid DLC for Minecraft Dungeons. It was released on February 24, 2021. It is the second DLC of the Season Pass, the first DLC set in the other dimensions, and the first DLC that is not part of the narrative of the Orb of Dominance. It includes three missions, Nether Wastes, Warped Forest, and Basalt Deltas, and three secret missions, Crimson Forest, Soul Sand Valley, and Nether Fortress. It is the first DLC to not include a boss.

Appearance

The map where *Flames of the Nether* takes place, located in the other dimensions.

Flames of the Nether is based on the Nether dimension in the main game where lava can be found everywhere. The hero starts at the north of the map, in the nether wastes mission. Nether wart forests can be found to the west of it where fungi and vines grow wildly. The cyan and mysterious one is called the warped forest while the bloody and red one is called the crimson forest. A huge volcano lies in the south made up of blackstone as well as large basalt pillars dotting its surface. Snowflake-like ash covers this region, making it identical to the Snowy Tundra. In the far east, there is a large valley made of soul related blocks, as well as mysterious fossils. A colossal fortress is built right above the lava sea in the center of the Nether.

Trivia

During the concept art phase for the Flames of the Nether, the developers made up over a hundred pages of concept art including everything from general coloring to new plants, props, armor, and weapons that fit with the environments.^[4]
A screenshot taken from Minecraft Live 2020 displays a Soul Sand Valley biome, the info_update block, a internal block in Bedrock Edition, can be seen among the soul sand.
In a video posted by the Minecraft Dungeons Twitter account, the twisting vine bow and the weeping vine bow can be seen, being the first two new items revealed for the DLC.^[5]
There is a statue in the Nether Fortress that depicts the Wildfire, a mob that lost the Mob Vote during MINECON Earth 2017. When this DLC originally came out, the Wildfire was available in the game files but did not spawn as it was not finished in time for the update, but since the Luminous Night update it has been added and one even spawns as part of the ambush surrounding this statue.
Although Wither Skeletons in Minecraft don't spawn with Bows naturally, they do here in the form of the wither skeleton archer, which are equipped with the Red Snake.
There were some noticeable differences in this DLC compared to features from the Minecraft:
- Piglins and wither skeletons do not attack each other.
- Piglins are not afraid of soul fire and zombified piglins.
- Zombified piglins attack the hero immediately on sight.
- Wither skeletons and zombified piglins are not immune to fire.
- Piglins and zombified piglins can be found in the Warped Forest, Basalt Deltas, Soul Sand Valley, and the Nether Fortress despite not spawning in those places in the main Minecraft game.
- There are no adult hoglins.
Strider sounds can be heard throughout the Warped Forest mission, similar to the vulture sounds in the Cacti Canyon.
