Search for the Arch-Illager is a short story, divided in two parts, written by Sofia Dankis, published on Minecraft.net.[1][2]
Summary
Part 1
In this lighthearted investigative report, the author embarks on a mission to uncover the truth about the mysterious Arch-Illager, the villain from Minecraft Dungeons. The author, who humorously claims to be an expert sleuth despite being guilty of the very mysteries they solve, takes the reader along on their quirky journey.
The investigation begins with the author trying to access the Dungeons team office, humorously referred to as "The Cave," only to be thwarted when their key card doesn't work. Undeterred, they piece together a few clues from overheard conversations and the announcement trailer, concluding they know "a lot of stuff."
Feeling stuck, the author’s breakthrough comes in the form of Joel, the office manager, who hands them a dark envelope containing newspaper clippings about the Arch-Illager. The author quickly devours a half-eaten sandwich found inside, declaring snacks to be essential detective tools. As they read the articles, the author begins to empathize with the Arch-Illager, imagining what it would feel like to be shunned by an entire village and inspired by the grandeur of his castle and artwork.
The case takes an unexpected turn when the author jokingly declares they may have found their soulmate in the misunderstood villain. With the investigation far from over, readers are left in suspense, eagerly awaiting part two of this playful quest for love and the truth.
Part 2
In this second installment of the investigation into the Arch-Illager, the determined detective continues her search for the villain, still convinced he might be her true love. After receiving mysterious mail and being sealed in a box (which she believes to be a romantic gesture), she finds herself in a different office, where she confronts David Nisshagen, the Executive Producer of Minecraft Dungeons, who informs her that her obsession with the Arch-Illager is disrupting the office. Undeterred, the detective escapes and runs into the night, only to spot her beloved Arch-Illager, who mysteriously vanishes after summoning an army of Illagers. Despite his questionable actions, the detective remains devoted to the Arch-Illager, declaring her allegiance to him and leaving readers to question whether they, too, would join her in supporting the villainous figure. The search concludes with the detective’s resolve, as she becomes more enamored with the Arch-Illager’s complex persona.
