blocks-atlas was a texture atlas used by the game to store textures for blocks and fluids, following the deprecation of terrain.png

It was eventually merged with items-atlas to form textures-atlas.

1.7.213w41ablocks-atlas and its dimensions are now announced in the game log when loading the game and when changing resource packs.

Debug output

13w02bThe file produced in the .minecraft folder now has dimensions restricted to powers of two. Whether this also applies to the atlas itself is unknown.
13w03aThe file produced in the .minecraft folder now has transparency; previously it was completely opaque.
13w09aThe produced file has been renamed from stitched_terrain.png to debug.stitched_terrain.png.
1.6.113w18adebug.stitched_terrain.png is no longer produced in the .minecraft folder.

Anisotropic Filtering

When toggled on, this option would add eight pixels to the edge of each texture, taken from the other side. This results in atlases which look considerably different, and with different dimensions.

Mipmapped versions

Up to four mipmapped versions of each atlas would also be generated by the game from 13w38a onwards, depending on the current values in Video Settings. The textures would be shrunk to 8×8, 4×4, 2×2 and 1×1, and would render instead of the normal textures at far distances or sharp angles of incidence.
