Questions tagged [hdpi]

High DPI (dots per inch) screen resolutions, e.g. 4k/UHD/QHD screens in a relatively small form factor, e.g. laptops/tablets. Use this tag for issues relating to the Ubuntu experience on HDPI screens.

HDPI screens are found in some newer monitors where the size of a pixel is shrunk significantly to give a much clearer display. However this can cause problems for applications that rely on pixels being a certain size for their user interface, e.g. those that specify sizes in screen pixels (as opposed to CSS pixels).

Is there any Ubuntu flavor that handles HiDPI consistently?

Although I know how to tweak here and there.. I wonder if there is any Ubuntu 16.04 (or newer) variant that specializes or works 'out-of-the-box' with HiDPI screens. For that matter, it would be interesting to know any good and recent Linux…

Is there anything to gain from having a 4k screen with 200% scaling vs. a FullHD screen?

From what I understand, if I use a 4k (3840x2160) screen and configure it with a 200% scaling, it results in a "fake" FullHD (1920x1080). That means every pixel of the "FullHD" image gets displayed on four pixels (2x2) on the actual hardware screen,…
