Movie:Easter eggs

This article is about easter eggs in A Minecraft Movie. For easter eggs in Minecraft, see Easter eggs. For easter eggs in Minecraft: Story Mode, see MCSM:Easter eggs.

Throughout A Minecraft Movie, several easter eggs are hidden throughout the movie, including cameos, details, and references.

Cameos

Auction attendees

Several auction attendees attended Daryl's auction in Chuglass of a storage unit containing Steve's belongings from his former home on Earth. They were portrayed by Oliver Brotherhood, Daniel Middleton, Lizzie, and Jessica Bravura, notable for being popular content creators on YouTube, among several uncredited actors. The items up for sale included a water bed, pickaxes, a large can, mixed nuts, several "unisex turquoise blouses," and a 1978 Atari Cosmos. The auction began at $500, and Garrett won one item for $900. However, upon discovering that the Atari Cosmos box is empty, he trashes the entire storage unit, infuriating Daryl and the auction attendees.

Valkyrae was also scheduled to make a cameo, however her cameo was cut.[1]

Waiter

During the scenes at the restaurant, Jens Bergensten makes a brief cameo appearance as a waiter. He appears for less than five seconds, without any dialogue. In the behind the scenes video, Marlene + Nitwit, his gold-plated nametag shows the name Jeb, referencing Bergensten's nickname.

Survival Mode Self-Defense

During the resolution of the story, it's revealed that Natalie went on to found Survival Mode Self-Defense. Among the inductees is the film's producer, Torfi Frans Ólafsson.

Details

Trader llama

Although not appearing in the film proper, there are two references to trader llamas. In one scene, a visual gag of a wandering trader interacting with an ordinary llama can be seen. More subtly, an engraving of the mob can be seen on the trader's belt.[2]

Ruby

Within the marketplace area of Midport Village, a decoration in the shape of a ruby from Minecraft Earth can be seen.

Herobrine

During Henry’s fight against the enderman, it creates hallucinations of his friends to torment him. They all possess the same purple eyes as endermen, except for the Steve hallucination, who has white eyes. This makes him look extremely similar to Herobrine. In a tweet on April 6th, Torfi Frans Olafsson, the producer of the film, stated that "it's super strange" that the eyes of one character "kept coming out white," jokingly adding that this was due to a VFX error which was left in because of time constraints.[3] The tweet was later quoted by the main Minecraft account with a curious emoji.[4]

Technoblade

During the scene where Steve shows the misfits around Midport Village, Henry sees a pig wearing a crown and asks Steve if it's a king, to which Steve replies that it is "a legend". This is a reference to the YouTuber Technoblade, who died in 2022 of cancer and is often considered a legend by the community.

Water bucket clutch

At two separate points within the film, characters use a water bucket to survive a fatal fall. Initially, it's Steve who uses it to survive a crash from a firework rocket. Later, Garrett claims to have survived an explosion using this technique. Both instances are a reference to the water bucket clutch, a popular technique where a water bucket is used to break a fall. However, in the film it's presented more like a cushion, fired from a distance instead of moments before impact.

Swedish

During her date with the Nitwit, Marlene is asked by Matty The Waitress if she's finished eating. Hearing "Finnish," she remarks "no, I think he's Swedish." This is a reference to the franchise originating in Sweden.

Title drop

During the lead-up to the climax, Steve boasts "first, we mine, then we craft. Let's Minecraft!" Dawn also proceeds to say "Minecraft!"
