Minecraft is an upcoming Swedish-Canadian CG-animated series created in collaboration with WildBrain Studios[1] and Flying Bark Productions[2] based on the 2009 video game of the same name that will debut exclusively on Netflix.[3]
Plot
According to Netflix, the series “will tell an original story with new characters and reflect the world of Minecraft in a new light”.[1][4]
Production
Development
The series was announced to be in production on May 30, 2024, alongside a teaser trailer.[3] WildBrain Studios - the Canadian studio behind Carmen Sandiego, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Sonic Prime - are responsible for the series' CG-animation, while Netflix and Mojang Studios produce it.[1]
On April 23, 2025, Netflix announced that an "in-depth look" at the series would be shown at their animated series studio focus at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 12, 2025.[5]
On June 12, 2025, Nexus Point News reported on X that Netflix revealed that the series will have detailed animation and "will be authentic to the game while offering new adventures".[6] It was reported by Variety that Netflix and Mojang Studios desired to "create a universe that is a new experience for fans" showcasing "a trio of images" that shocked the people in attendance.[7] It was also announced that Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander would serve as showrunners while A.C. Bradley would serve as head writer.[8]
