Questions tagged [freeze]

A freeze or hang is when the system becomes unresponsive for some period of time. This may relate to memory usage, graphics issues, or something else. If you are having this problem, be sure to include details of your hardware and configuration in your question.

Freezes have a variety of causes.

Adjusting your configuration may help:

  • Make sure you have enough swap space and that it is being used as needed
  • Make sure you are using the correct graphics driver for your system
  • Check for kernel / driver bugs related to your hardware specifically and try any recommended workarounds

Sometimes a transient bug is to blame and the problem goes away after an update or upgrade.
