Checkbox is an application included by default with Ubuntu that diagnoses computer problems and submits hardware profiles to developers so that Ubuntu can be tested on a wide variety of hardware configurations, to assist in bug-fixing and future improvements.
Checkbox is a utility in the default Ubuntu installation that performs non-interactive (automatic tests) on system hardware. Users can also use it to perform a wide range of hardware tests interactively.
Some tests done automatically:
- hard drive, optical drive and usb detection
- memory testing
- networking hardware detection
Some tests users can initiate :
- default display and resolution detection
- microphone and speakers
- keyboard and hotkeys for wireless, volume and so on
