Matt Forbeck is an American author, known for writing for several iconic franchises, such as Marvel, Halo, and Dungeons & Dragons, as well as designing tabletop role playing games.

In the Minecraft franchise

In 2020, Forbeck was assigned to write Rise of the Arch-Illager, a prequel novel to the game Minecraft Dungeons, explaining the origins of the game's main antagonist.[1] In 2023, he would return to write an opposing novel, Return of the Piglins. This book was a sequel of sorts to Minecraft Legends, treating the events as mere stories with ambiguous truth.[2] The focus was instead put on a conflict involving a zookeeper named Farnum and a fugitive piglin named Kritten.

In 2025, it was announced he would return to the franchise, writing not a book but designing a tabletop RPG, Minecraft: Roll for Adventure: The Temple of the Charged Creeper.[3][4]
