Iron is a resource found primarily in dry savannas and forests used to create defensive structures and units such as masonries and the First of Brick.
Obtaining
Gathering

Only once the gather iron improvement has been built at an improvement hub, iron can be gathered by using a gather allay near a iron vein, which can generate in dry savannas and forests. When gathering, the gather allay will fill up the player's iron storage until either the storage capacity is reached or all iron within the gather allay's gathering radius has been obtained.
25 iron is automatically granted to players when they build the gather iron improvement.
Players passively receive 15 iron every minute if they have built the large gather iron improvement at an improvement hub.
In a Custom Game, the amount of iron veins that generate throughout the world can be increased or decreased during world generation. Once the world has been created this setting cannot be changed again.
Chests
Once the gather iron improvement has been built, iron has a chance to be obtained by opening village chests in dry savanna and forest villages and allay chests.
Capacity
The amount of iron that can be stored at one time is limited. The maximum iron capacity is increased every time a gather iron improvement is built.
Usage
Iron is used to spawn certain units and build certain structures.
