Sticky pistons are a redstone block that can move other blocks. There are exceptions, like bedrock. There are others. Pistons can be powered by redstone dust, block of redstone, lever, pressure plate, buttons, etc. When a sticky piston pushes a block and then the redstone signal is taken away, the block will move back to its original position.
