The main menu is a menu used to start the game, select and clone characters, and to make cloud saves. Settings may also be changed here in the same way as the pause menu.
When starting a game via the main menu, the player must select between hosting an online game or an offline game. Selecting to start an offline game creates a game state where other players cannot join or be invited. Additionally, opening the inventory or pausing the game freezes gameplay in the background in an offline game. Selecting to start an online game opens a menu where the player can choose to join a friend's online game, start their own online game, or add friends by inputing gamertags. The player can also choose whether the online game they're creating will be private or not, where a private game will not be joinable by other players unless they're manually invited by the host. Starting either an offline or online game with a new character plays the opening cinematic and transports the player to Squid Coast. Starting a game with an existing character transports the player to Camp.
By selecting the hero settings button on the main menu, the player can modify or switch between their characters. By navigating to an empty slot, a new character can be created, or alternatively downloaded from an existing cloud save. By selecting "make clone", a clone of the highlighted character will be created that maintains the characters' skin, enchantment points, mission progression, secret mission unlocks, which camp merchants they have obtained (minus their unlockable slots), and their currently equipped melee weapon, ranged weapon, armor, and artifacts. Characters can have their skin changed by selecting "change skin", and can be deleted by selecting "delete hero". By selecting "upload hero", the currently highlighted hero can be uploaded as a cloud save, maintaining all of their data.
The location depicted in the background of the main menu is a wooded area set at night, resembling the appearance of Creeper Woods. It features a campfire, tent, several barrels and crates, fireflies, yellow fungi, and the currently selected hero standing in the center.
