How do I safely remove gwibber?

I'm really in love with Ubuntu but I'm not used to Gwibber, for some reason. I can't remove gwibber without removing the ubuntu-desktop package. Is it safe to remove it, without ruining my desktop?

Gwibber will not allow me to log into facebook

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it does not work, it hasn't worked since the beta I believe, any ideas? By the way this is a clean install, and it does not work on my older install either.

Gwibber does not respect proxy settings
