A rare or unusual animal that generally isn't thought of as a pet. Loosely defined as a pet that isn't a dog or a cat, though as the pet industry grows, less animals are being considered exotic.

Specifically, an exotic pet is one that not indigenous to the owner's location. An animal that has been imported.

Exotic pets are usually lacking in care information, and require a great deal of research before making the decision to care for one.
