It is based on the same platform as SEAT Ibiza, SEAT Córdoba, Volkswagen Fox, Volkswagen Polo & Volkswagen Golf Citi (Volkswagen AG's A04-platform).

Produced from 1999 and onwards, it replaced the Skoda Felicia.
