A Piglin Base is a piglin structure that can be found within Minecraft Legends.
Generation
Piglin bases generate in groups of three or five (depending on difficulty), each group with its own horde type, and each base with a difficulty level from easy to medium to hard, with three types of the hordes in total. They can be located with on your map, with a nether portal icon, and are destroyed when the portal in the middle is destroyed. Once destroyed, all piglins vanish along with most of the structures at that outpost.
If the maximum amount of Piglin bases is reached (three to five per horde depending on difficulty), and a base tries to build another one, the Piglins "make an error" and damage it. This makes structures weaker, thus making the base easier to destroy. But this lasts only until the next sunset, after which the damaged Piglin base will be restored to normal.
Small bases are easier, have less units, and require no upgrades to be ready to battle. Medium and Large bases are considered too dangerous for players without the Firsts, and require upgrades. Large bases also have big Piglins, making the battle harder. Trying to enter a medium or large base without being ready often results in death or significant damage.
Remember that in terms of resources, Small bases contain small rewards, Medium bases contain medium rewards, and Large bases contain large rewards.
Upgrading
Over time, the hordes will begin to upgrade their bases at dusk, one or more per night or less frequently. If a base is successfully upgraded, it will increase in size, get more buildings, and become more fortified. If a base attempting to upgrade itself is disturbed by attacking it, destroying it or staying near it causes the base to fail upgrading. Piglins can also "make an error" and damage one of their bases if they decide to upgrade an already maxed out base or build another base from the maximum amount.
Types of bases
| Outpost Type | Style | Structure |
|---|---|---|
| Horde of the Bastion Base | Defensive | Layered walls and gates around the portal, attack structures strategically placed |
| Horde of the Hunt Base | Offensive | Various attack structures spread out, so prepare to be surprised |
| Horde of the Spore Base | Area and Spores-related | Tall netherrack elevations accessible by constructing ramps |
Variants of Horde of the Hunt Bases
| Outpost Type | Structure |
|---|---|
| Crater Base | Terrian height decreases the closer to the portal |
| Raised Base | Multiple spots of raised terrain, creates various channels to hide piglin units |

Tactics
Horde of the Hunt bases are less fortified and contain less structures, but make up for it in larger size, their buildings are arranged haphazardly and significantly more piglins. At higher tiers, the base can acquire Terror horns, Siegeworks, Air choppers, and Lava coils. The Piglin launchers become taller and launch barrels with stronger piglins.
- The Horde of the Hunt tends to raid villages, mob homestands and wellhouses.
- Cure Netherrack allows the player to convert netherrack into normal terrain and gradually push further into the piglin base, building your defenses to repel waves of piglins and attack their defenses;
- Piglin pits and piglin launchers will constantly spawn waves of piglins. Destroying them will significantly reduce the number of piglin forces.
Horde of the Spore bases are built on multiple plateaus of varying sizes and heights, requiring the player to build ramps to move from one plateau to another. At higher tiers, the base can acquire Spore towers, Air choppers and Lava coils. Walls with gates can also appear on the plateau with Nether portal, surrounding it and other structures near it.
- Golems, mobs, and piglins take fatal fall damage when they fall from high plateaus. The player, however, will take a certain fall damage, but using gliding mounts can allow to avoid it.
- You can pass low-height plateaus by building ramps and bridges on warped trees that appear in their bases and outposts, as they don't count as obstacles. However, they count as a part of environment and can be removed with the Cure Netherrack Improvement.
Horde of the Bastion bases are most fortified, consisting of several layers of walls with one or two gates; the structures are strategically placed between the walls and near the nether portals, and most are surrounded by lava moats; in some cases, the base can generate without lava moat, but on a high netherrack platform. It becomes necessary to build ramps to cross over the lava. At higher tiers, the base can acquire Spike towers, Air choppers, Patcher, Siegeworks and Lava coils. The base also expands in size, giving more space for new buildings.
- If the Patcher is present in a high-level base, it will constantly and gradually repair all damaged buildings throughout the base.
- Unlike the Carpenter Hut, the patcher does not repair itself when damaged, making it easier to destroy.
All piglin bases and piglin outposts are surrounded by netherrack, a type of terrain that prevents the player from building structures except for ramps. Building the Cure Netherrack Improvement will allow to convert netherrack into normal terrain, which will let the player build the structures on it.
- Small piglin bases have fewer structures and are less fortified, making them easy to destroy in the early stages of the game. Their nether portals can be attacked directly, but be sure to provide cover for your army while they damage the core structure.
- But over time, the hordes will begin to upgrade their bases. And each time they succeed, the bases grow in size, acquire new buildings, and become more fortified. Building improvements, forming alliances with mobs, and awakening the Firsts becomes necessary to attack piglin bases of higher tiers.
- Hordes can build new bases if their previous ones have been destroyed.
- Building a Wellhouse near the furthest piglin base will save you a lot of time; it acts as teleport point and respawn point for you and the Firsts that fell in battle. It also allows to transport both spawned and lured mobs. Be sure to secure the ground around the wellhouse with defence to prevent the piglins from destroying it.
- If you can't reach a specific piglin structure with your army, use the Redstone Launcher; it allows you to damage and destroy piglin structures that are within its wide range. Make sure they are within range before building it.
- The Firsts are powerful units against the piglins: the First of Stone is effective at destroying piglin structures, the First of Oak is effective at taking down piglins, the First of Diorite periodically spawns small group of golems, and the First of Brick protects against enemy projectiles with its barrier.
- Piglin builders can construct more buildings inside and outside the piglin bases, especially in Horde of the Bastion bases. They can only build on netherrack, so it is necessary to cure the terrain beforehand or defeat them before they start constructing.
- In Horde of the Spore bases, piglins can push each other off the edges of a plateau if they gather in big number in one spot. If it's a high plateau, most of piglins will take fatal fall damage.
- Depending on the horde that plans to invade a village, mob homestead or a wellhouse, the strength and duration of their invasion will increase as more of their bases are destroyed.

Trivia
- The design intention of Raised Horde of the Hunt bases is to give the player different ways to engage with the base and encourage them to think about what to target first and how to reach it. This horde’s unique trait is bolstering the greatest number of units in its bases. As such, this base has channels to create pockets of engagement where the might of the enemy waves can be felt. This encourages the players to think on their toes to figure out how to deal with or avoid the enemy waves.[1]
- The design intention of Crater Horde of the Hunt bases is to let the player approach the base from any direction. It also clearly show the waves of enemies and emphasize the unique trait of this horde. Because of the lack of obscuring terrain, the player has a better understanding of the enemy compositions, locations, and difficulty. The enemies also have an easier time reaching the player’s forces.[2]
