This Horde of the Bastion outpost in the jagged peaks is covered in netherrack, populated by piglin structures such as gold extractors.

Netherrack refers to the red, rocky surface making up the Nether and allowing only piglins to build structures on. Any biome taken over by netherrack is referred to as "Nether" in the compass.

Generation

Netherrack appears as the total of the surface of piglin bases and piglin outposts. Nether spreaders and terror horns also turn any Overworld surface into netherrack by activating. During the fight against the Great Hog, the Well of Fate is surrounded by veins of netherrack, causing biomes navigated to alternate between "Fatelands" and "Nether".

Netherrack also covers the base of piglin structures in craggy formations, with crimson roots and fungi on Horde of the Hunt structures and their warped counterparts in Horde of the Spore structures.

Interacting with netherrack

Netherrack-covered areas prevent all player structures except ramps from being built on, but can be cured with allays if the improvement cure netherrack is built. The curing turns netherrack into a moss-like surface allowing player structures to be built on.

Variants

Depending on the horde of the base or outpost, netherrack can either be barren or covered with nether vegetation. Horde of the Hunt netherrack is populated with sparse crimson roots and huge crimson fungi, while the netherrack of the Horde of the Spore is populated with sparse huge warped fungi covering the ground with their vines.
