An electrical component which performs a similar function as a mechanical relay (conducts an analog or digital signal when on but does not conduct when off). Unlike a mechanical relay, however, it has no moving parts, and it may or may not provide galvanic isolation between the control signal and the switching terminals.

Analog switch for AC

I'm looking for an analog SPDT switch which will block reverse current if in open state. The circuit operates in two modes: LED on (SW1 and SW2 in closed state) LED off (SW1 in closed, SW2 in open state) In mode 1 both switches are closed, forcing…

CD4066 has a simple A/B Switch with a simple design

I want to replace my mechanical A/B switch (lots of pops and clicks) for my headphone/speaker on my PC and I was looking into the CD4066 (cmos quad bilateral switch). I look at a lot of design and I see many using input coupling capacitors with…

Do I have to supply an analog switch IC with a voltage level higher than the switched voltage level?

I have an analog switch circuit as seen in the image above. I want to switch a digital signal which has either -5.4V or +5.4 level. My analog switch is MC74VHC4316. According to the datasheet, the VCC voltage can be in the interval of [+2.0V,…

Max current in Analog multiplexers with latch

In case of multiplexers with a latch, how does one calculate the maximum current that the IC can drive? I am talking specifically about the HC4351 series. How much can the MUX drive, at different stages of the output? Since we are dealing with a…

Tips to design an analog automatic switch selection circuit for CT (Current Transformer)

I've been beating my brains out in a circuit I attached a figure below. Well I have 2 current transformers(CT). First from current on secondary 100A:50mA and second from voltage on secondary 100A:1V. In my first CT, I need to add burden resistance…

S,D terminals of analog switch

I find analog switch usually label the two terminal of the switch channel as "S"(Source) and "D"(Drain). Such as this. I think they are equal in function, either can be used as input or output. So why still use the terminology from MOSFETs?
