pommed is a small Linux background service meant to enable the use of function-specific hardware keys present on the Apple MacBook Pro, MacBook and PowerBook laptops. It monitors the ambient light sensors to automatically adjust the screen/keyboard backlights, audio volume, or eject the CD-ROM drive accordingly. Optional support also exists for the Apple Remote control.
