I can't boot on Ubuntu (24.04) after the last Windows Update (Windows 11 Home 24H2). I've searched for some answers suggesting to boot from a Boot-Repair Disk (which I did) and use the Boot-Repair, which didn't work. It didn't show the Recommended Repair button, just the Create a summary button. The summary is pasted below.

Edit 1: here's my disk's info. The first one is a 1TB HD where I keep video files, music, photos and some backups.

Disk sda: 931.51 GiB, 1000204886016 bytes, 1953525168 sectors

sda1 2048 1953523711 1953521664 931.5G Microsoft basic data

This one is a SSD where I put the OS. Ubuntu is on sdb2

Disk sdb: 447.13 GiB, 480103981056 bytes, 937703088 sectors

sdb5 936294400 937699327 1404928 686M Windows recovery environment

Here's the summary. I updated the firmware using the zip file provided at Acer's website.

The default repair of the Boot-Repair utility would not act on the boot.

I tried following a step-by-step guide on how to reinstall grub, even scared of messing things up, but it didn't work either. When I tried to mount the main partition it returned

mount: special device /dev/sdb2 does not exist

Edit 2: I tried the first 2 solutions written here: a) if I press shift + esc it leads me to a screen where sudo does not work; b) boot repair does not work. As I said earlier, it didn't show the Recommended Repair button, just the Create a summary button. On advanced options, it doesn't show the Repair GRUB option either; c) both Windows and Ubuntu are on UEFI, but I don't understand what to do with that; d) I disabled hibernation and fast boot, but reinstalling GRUB is impossible. It keeps telling me /dev/sdb2 does not exist. Do I really need to wipe my ssd and reinstall all over again?

Edit 3: I tried this solution using the following on the Boot Repair Disk terminal:

sudo apt --fix-broken install

But it returned nothing. Then I tried

sudo update-grub

And the message was

error: failed to get canonical path of '/cow'.

This last one is funny, at least.

I can use Windows normally, and I can even access my files on Ubuntu using a software called Diskinternals Linux Reader, but I really wished to use Ubuntu again. I only use Windows for gaming and some apps which don't work on Wine, but I'm also very new in the Linux world. If there's something missing, please tell me.

I was ready to give up and prepared a Live USB stick to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch. But before starting the process, I opened the terminal again and tried using gparted. The return was the same as of this question. After a few checks (with both fdisk and sfdisk), I tried

sgdisk -e /dev/sdb

and it worked!
