I am having problems with VLC playing movies in Ubuntu MATE 24.04. I put a DVD in the tray and the result is an endless loop. It never gets to the point of playing the movie. VLC also plays .mp4 movies where only the sound is playing, no video.

I have reinstalled VLC. I cannot find a .deb version for VLC. Are .deb files going the way of the dodo birds? Is snap the only option for installing VLC?

Celluoid has no problem playing movies.

In VLC:

Menu ---> Tools ---> Preferences, on the pop-up screen select:

Video ---> Output.

And select the video output that suits your system.
