With regard to tethering iphone 6s and ubuntu 20.04 - not working I'm now up to the current kernel version 5.15.0-91 in Ubuntu 20.04 and tethering is NOT working. I had it working until I updated the iPhone to iOS 15.8, which appears to have caused the tethering to stop working.

https://github.com/potato1992/Iphone_usb_tethering_fix was a great workaround, but is no longer current.

I'm wondering how many other people are experiencing this particular problem.

Has anybody gotten this to work on the current kernel and current iOS, and if so, how?

I just installed a new 20.04 system for compatibility reasons. The iPhone is currently using 17.4.1 and was not fully working. The Internet took a minute to start up, photos were good but Documents failed to load. The document names were there but failed to load when clicked.

I noticed in iPhone Personal Hotspots, there is a “Maximize Compatibility” option. That didn’t work for me but maybe for some people it helps.

What did work was going to packages.ubuntu.com and downloading about 7 Deb files from 22.04 (jammy). I think I started with libimobiledevice6 and then downloaded the associated files listed.

I used dpkg -i for most but had to use one of the suggested options to “—de” something, to get one of them to install.

Anyway, the jammy updates worked. I ended up later using apt install —fix-broken. This may have actually removed some of the new packages but it could be that the new files affected some configuration setting. In any case, it is working now.
