I AM

I am a poet and a liar.
I wonder if they really listen;
I hear their whispered praises,
I see their puzzled expressions,
I want to slap them awake.
I pretend to know the world, yet
I feel isolated;
I touch only illusions,
I worry they might see through me,
I cry for reality.
I understand nothing;
I say my words are mighty,
I dream of perfect horrors,
I try to roll my words into sense and
I hope they never find me out, because
I am a poet and a liar.
