I'm developing a style guide and we are identifying a situation where an article is written, followed by the job title of the article writer.

I understand that adding a job title after an author's name when in a paragraph structure should be like this: This article about national parks by John Smith, editor in chief, emphasizes the technology used throughout the many US parks.

The name, followed by the job title should be lowercase. However, this question is about the name, followed by a job title when used in a byline.

The Use of Technology in US National Parks
John Smith, Editor in Chief

The only thing I've been able to find thus far is regarding email signatures. Is that how the above should be written?

I'm trying to understand the APA way along with some documentation from an official APA site or some other official documentation so I have something to reference.

Following APA, the affiliation (i.e. the place where an author works) is given on a separate line, below the author name, thus:

The Use of Technology in US National Parks

John Smith
University of Nebraska

Do not give job titles in the byline. Section 6.15, "Job Titles and Positions" of the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual explicitly states that "titles are not used in bylines".

If you want to deviate from APA – which you certainly may; their style is not a law, just a convention – and give job titles, you will have to invent your own style rules for that, as job titles are not part of the APA style.
