My understanding of dynamical codes is that they are codes whose logical qubits are generated through a particular sequence of measurements.

  1. Are Spacetime codes or the walking codes mentioned in the paper "Relaxing Hardware Requirements for Surface Code Circuits using Time-dynamics" considered dynamical codes?
  2. Are Floquet codes the only example of dynamical codes? (Are the terms Floquet code and dynamical code interchangeable?)

  1. Stabilizer and subsystem code categories are subsets of dynamical codes, so in that sense, even the standard surface code is by default a nontrivial dynamical code. That aside, it is fair to consider (1) a dynamical code. In fact, that protocol was realized experimentally in a paper titled "Demonstrating dynamic surface codes."

  2. No. Floquet codes refer to codes with a measurement sequence with finite periodicity. Dynamical codes may have non-periodic measurement sequences, as is the case in the latter paper you linked that realizes color code automorphisms.
