The Physics Stack article of 01/28/2016 on this topic presents an equation to do this. I am trying to find the origin of this equation in a scientific journal or textbook article, if there is one, so I can see how it was derived. The calculation differs from others I find on the web in that m, the order of the light and dark fringes, is corrected by addition of 0.75. m is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc., with even digits denoting the lighter fringes (maxima) and odd digits the darker fringes (minima). A derivation on a You Tube video used 2m+1 for maxima and m for minima. Ref: 13. Diffraction at a straight edge | derivation | learndiyphysics YouTube Learndiyphysics) 8.8K views Dec 17, 2020
