Look around and you will notice things change. Flowers withering, temperatures rising, objects falling (change of position). Change is a foundational part of how our world functions.
So a term has been coined to represent this concept of never-ending change. We use the term time. That time has a direction essentially expresses the fact that change as a whole is irreversible.
There's more depth to this, and the directionality concept can be explored much more, but the above is where to start for the intuition.
