Having a lecture from my professor, he stated that all reversible processes must be quasistatic, i.e. they must occur over an extremely large amount of time to return to the state they once were without the need for additional energy. I can't wrap my head around why the time of the process has anything to do with the energy expenditure. Both a mathematical and physical answer would be appreciated.
