I'm UK based. I know that credit cards charge extra cash transaction fees for not only getting cash from the ATM but also for things which are not quite cash like crypto, gift cards or gambling. Is donating money to a charity also considered a cash advance purchase?

In Australia, they are a cash advance.
I used to make donations using my credit card, and that was never an issue. Recently, however, when I was about to make one, for some unknown reason I decided to check my bank's credit card policies again. It was fortunate that I did so, because now they consider all donations to be a cash advance.
Any donation from a credit card will be treated as a cash advance. https://tinyurl.com/5enyp47c
I looked at other banks and as far as I am aware, this is the case for all standard credit cards in Australia.
